Janet Casey

Violin

Janet Casey is a Violin Teaching Artist for El Sistema Somerville. The proud product of music education in public schools, she began class lessons on violin and viola in Medford at age seven. She attended The New England Conservatory of Music on a merit

scholarship, graduating with a degree in viola performance.

 

She was a violist in the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (the symphonic/lyric orchestra of Florence, Italy) for 30 years playing along side artists as diverse as Zubin Mehta, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Luciano Pavarotti, and Yoyo Ma.

 

She was also a member of the select orchestra performing at the Three Tenors Concert in 1990 at Caracalla in Rome, the all-time best-selling classical recording with worldwide sales of more that than 12 million CDs, cassettes and videos combined.​

 

She created string programs in elementary schools in Italy and in Poland. Now a resident of Concord, MA she founded and conducts the Holiday Singers of Medford, a chorus of seniors whose mission is to perform in local assisted living and nursing homes.

 

She was a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus

for seven years, and sings opera, jazz, and blues with ensembles in the Boston area.
