Stuart Schulman

Violin

Stuart Schulman is a versatile and eclectic musician known for his work as a classical and jazz violinist, electric bass player, pianist, and arranger. As a child, Stuart studied violin and taught himself the piano and bass. While a student at MIT he played bass in their jazz band, directed by Herb Pomeroy. In addition, he was the pianist and Music Director of the improvisational theater group, The Proposition, in Cambridge.

Stuart met Jonathan Edwards in 1970 when they were members of rival local bands. They performed, often as a duo, throughout the ‘70s, touring the US and Canada extensively. It was during this time that Jonathan - with Stuart’s collaboration - recorded his first four albums which included the hit tunes "Sunshine," "Shanty," and others.

Stuart has also played or recorded on violin, piano, and/or bass with Don Grolnick, Tom Rush, Chris Smither, Peter Rowan, Matthew Wilder, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Bill Staines, Daring & Stahl, and many others. He played some country-style fiddle on a classical album, “Early American Vocal Music”, that was nominated for a grammy in the
1970s.

Over the years, other projects have included collaboration and performance on the soundtracks for the films Passion Fish, Wild Hearts Can't be Broken, The Opposite of Sex, and on music for television. Stuart plays violin regularly with the Vista Philharmonic Orchestra.
